A Word About Chainsaw Safety
Great care has been taken by chainsaw manufacturers to make designs safe, and there have been excellent improvements over the years. That doesn't mean, however, that working with these tools is not without risk of injury. The most common and most serious cause of injury is kickback. This is a phenomenon where movement of the chain stops suddenly due to the failed course of a chain tooth in cutting through wood, thus causing the bar to move upward, in an arc-like path, toward the operator.
Another danger comes from the operator being caught or crushed under a felling timber load when the item(s) being worked on collapse before the saw blade has been completely removed. Before using a chainsaw for any purpose, logging or aboriculture, it is critical that the user receives comprehensive information about chainsaw safety. And, checkout our chainsaw safety video.
