Just Purchase A Different Product – Guillotine Lawn Edger Critique
December 31, 2011 by Riley Reed · Leave a Comment
Yes, I've discovered that it is entirely possible to spend the entire weekend mowing the lawn. After fighting for several hours to edge my neglected sidewalks and driveway with a manual edger I finally gave in and bought the Edge Hog from B&D.
I can't return it once it's been used, so I guess I'll find out how good the B&D warranty process works. I was very impressed by this edger. However, it worked easy enough. Due to the length of the lawn hanging over the sidewalk, in most places, it required running the EdgeHog over each section at least twice. I recommend this product. I have had other edgers that cost more than 3 times the price and didn't work any better.
I started looking at gasoline powered edgers, but they were ridiculously expensive. That's when I stumbled upon this little beauty.
OK, so I was a little late buying into the whole "Keeping up with the Jones's" landscaping and lawn look. This thing was slicing through 3-4 inches of THICK dirt and grass (4 years) growth like it was soft butter.
I've had to return one item bought through Amazon for replacement, and that was an easy and excellent experience. I have used this product only once and it is far superior to the Ryobi that I had before it.
It's a slight safety concern because if the user momentarily stops to adjust the extension cord it could tip over as they are re-grasping the trigger to start again. All things considered, I love this edger and would definitely buy it again. I love this new edger! It was easy to put together and easy to use. This unit wasn't inexpensive...paid about $80.00. I'm going to spend a couple hundred and but a quality edger. I have used it twice, and it does a great job on my lawn. Unit operates as described in advertising on Amazon.
In fact, when I had finished edging with my gas edger the first time I came inside and loudly proclaimed to my husband that from now on, edging was his task! It's not that I didn't want to help out, I just couldn't. I've only used the Edge Hog twice since getting it this week but it's been fantastic. I haven't edged my property for about 10-11 years and the sidewalks were overgrown with grass, vines, and branches from bushes covering up to two feet of the sidewalks.
No issues or flaws as far as I am concerned. Previously, I used to do edging with the string edger and spend a lot of time on my side walk and still not clean enough, but now it's like a breeze and I want to do more.
A few notes - Only use it when it is bone dry outside. Car Repair Estimate Calculator.

I get the feeling from reading a few reviews that those guys never figured that out. Don't be afraid to set the depth pretty deep, it leaves a beautiful edge that way and doesn't score your concrete.
Be prepared however, the first time you use is will be the most difficult. After using it for the first time this past weekend, I found that the grass along the side of my driveway had grown over about 2 to 3 inches in most spots.
Yes hulling that much of cord is a bit of a pain, however, it's still easier than trying to maintain a gas edger. However, I do not recommend that you use more than 200 feet of cord.
I have a lot of edging to do (corner lot, public sidewalks set in on both sides, driveway, my sidewalks, patio), and needed something that would withstand being used every week. As much as I didn't want to be dragging around 100 feet of extension cords, the fact is electric edgers have much greater continuous power than gas edgers. This B&E is my first edger and I think it's the best edger. It has an extremely powerful motor and it guides perfectly.
I have had this over a year, so I have had plenty of experience with it. I have had to use it in trenching mode to even get it to edge. If you are installing an invisible fence, just buy one of these things. I laid around 1000 feet of cable in about 4 hours. What had been a chore for years turned out to be a short and sweet job to get the edging done and it looks a whole lot better than using a HOE. This edger works great and I am going to use it for my flower beds and plan to use it to dig me a little trench to put in some lighting along our side walk. I used full depth and the machine performed flawlessly. I bought an extra blade with my original purchase and it is still in the package it came in. I had one of the little two-stroke gas edgers before this one and I thought I would try electric but I was sorry I did. Even the little bitty gas edger put this one to shame in power and cutting quality.
The hard part was crawling along the ground pushing wire into the trench. It also made the job go much faster than expected. The weed eating device just didn't make it look right. My neighbor came over with his B&W edger one day and demonstrated it and I was sold on an edger. After several days of rain the ground was still quite damp and I was eager to use my new toy instead of waiting for the ground to dry. By clogging I mean it would no longer kick out the grass and dirt it was cutting into.
I have had this product for over four years and it has worked great. I have no complaints about this product and would recommend it to my friends. Move it forward two feet, back one foot--nice cut. Moving it forward and back gives you a clear sight on what it's doing and the results are fine.
We haven't used the trenching feature yet, but if it can trench as well as it edges, I'll be in seventh heaven! retaining walls cost.

One potential downside to this option is that they do require a bit more maintenance than other types of pool liners. Because they use plastic strips to anchor down to the pool you'll have more pieces to replace over time.
Beaded Pool Liners: Elaborate & Fun
If you want a pool liner that is purposely made to be esthetically pleasing yet efficient then you should look into beaded pool liners. On top of the beautiful designs these liners come in they are also really simple to install and maintain. The beads, or welts as some call them, run along the entire top of the liner. The beads are used to snap into the bead receiver which is placed along the pool top. As for maintenance, the top half of your pool won't need to be disassembled if you decide to change out your pool liner.
Versatile & Appealing
Beaded liners are decorative and also attach to the pool differently than most other above ground pool liners. Beaded liners are very simple to install and maintain. The beads along the top edge of the liner are simply snapped into a bead receiver at the top of the pool edge. One of the main reasons people love these types of liners is because the top of the pool requires no disassembly during maintenance or removal.
Stretchable & Expandable
What if you have a pool that has a deep end or even a deep middle? This can make your pool liner selection much more difficult. Expandable above ground pool liners are designed to be able to expand up to 3ft. Generally these liners are only suitable for round (or oval) shaped pools. The downside to this liner is that due to its nature of being able to expand there will undoubtedly be some wrinkles or folds even after proper installation.
