Get Rid Of Pests To Create A Beautiful Lawn
December 1, 2011 by Bruce Wiley
If a once-healthy lawn no longer seems to have the dense, lush surface it had (or perhaps "dense" and "lush" are two words that have never been associated with that specific lawn), now is the time to identify the cause of the problem. A lawn must be hardy to survive weed, insect and disease attacks.
"Pesticides" is the broad term for the insecticides, herbicides and fungicides meant to eliminate or control weeds, nonbeneficial insects, fungus and other diseases. Pesticides may be either synthetic or organic and are used to control a pest-be it a weed, insect or disease-problem that has become out of control.
The best scenario is when you can detect potential problems in the initial stages. If you are seeing skunk digging your yard in search of grub larvae, it might be a little late for grub control.
The first step is to identify the pest and the conditions that led to the pest infestation. If you assess that your lawn is under pest attack, you might need to use some sort of pesticide to control the problem from spreading. If you are ready to use a pesticide, keep this present.
Do not use before reading the label and following directions.
Keep yourself from using pesticides on windy days, since the product can easily be spread to areas that don't need help.
Treat for weed and insects regularly, even if only needed in some spots.
Make sure pesticides stay away from water sources, and also from pavement that could potentially wash out in a body of water.
Stay away from treated area until they are dry or settled.
Remember, not all insects are pests. Less than 5 percent of all insects are harmful and most of these have natural predators such as other insects, birds, bats and toads to keep them in check.
Strong lawns can withstand the pressure of pests much better. In order to have a healthy, beautiful lawn, it needs to be maintained by keeping the ph balanced, providing good fertilization and doing anything else that promotes a good lawn. You can manage pest control on your own, of you can hire someone to do it for you. Make sure you respect the environment in your effort.
People will see your lawn before they see any other section in your house. Carefully and frequently analyzing a lawn for pests, weeds, diseases and insects will help to identify problems before a threshold of damage occurs. Acting at the beginning of an infestation will help you avoid costly recoveries later down the road.
