There's an old saying about firewood: "Firewood warms you two times – once when you cut it and again when you burn it". Anyone with a wood burning stove or fireplace knows the truth of this saying and for millennia, that's just the way it was; cutting firewood was a physically demanding chore. However, newer tools like electric, gas powered and hydraulic log splitters have reduced the workload of cutting firewood and allowed people to spend less time cutting wood and more enjoying the warmth of the fire.

What to Look For in a Log Splitter

What should you be looking for when you're in the market for a log splitter? First of all, it depends on whether you're in need of something which can split a lot of wood so you can sell it or one which is just for the use of your household. If you just need wood for your own stove or fireplace, then a smaller splitter (2-5 tons of pressure) will do nicely. However, if you plan to split wood to sell, then you'll want something more heavy duty, perhaps a 20 ton unit. Buying a smaller splitter than you need means you'll quickly burn out the engine, so be sure to get one which is adequate for your needs.

There are some people who have discovered that a high quality log splitter has uses other than cutting wood for the fireplace or stove. A log splitter can be a great tool for making furniture with a rustic look. Commercial splitters are often used to make rough planks, cut larger trees down to a more manageable size for shipping and other applications besides. Log splitters are useful for the home and for businesses, saving countless time and effort in every situation where they are used.

Prices of Log Splitters

You can get a high quality log splitter which will last you for many years of use at a cost of a few hundred dollars. These smaller splitters for personal use tend to be electrically powered models; larger splitters are usually hydraulically powered and while they are suitable for heavy duty use, they cost about ten times as much as the smaller log splitters made for individual use around the home.

Small electric log splitters are perfectly fine for use in the home, especially if your wood burning stove or fireplace is not the primary sources of heat in your home. However, if you need a log splitter for a business, even a small one, then you'll most likely need a hydraulic log splitter since these are more powerful and long-lasting (they're also suitable for making log furniture with).

Log Splitter Maintenance

Proper maintenance is important as with any power tool. Most of the newer log splitters don't require too much maintenance, but in order to operate your log splitter efficiently and safely, you'll want to educate yourself about maintaining your log splitter to ensure safe operation and a longer life for the tool.

Find Log Splitters at very affordable prices.
